Sky Vegetables

The Rooftop Garden Source is a side project of the urban agriculture firm, Sky Vegetables. The primary focus of our firm is to garden vegetables and other produce on rooftops. Below are more specific details about our services along with its benefits.
The System
Sky Vegetables constructs and operates commercial, hydroponic greenhouses on the rooftops of supermarkets in the United States and eventually on all types of flat rooftops worldwide. Sky Vegetables is a separate entity from the supermarket and assumes full risk and liability.
The greenhouses cultivate mostly vegetables, but also fruits, herbs and flowers, year round. Once matured, the produce is picked from the stem and immidiately transported downstairs for retail sale. Produce in excess of supermarket demand is sold to local restaurants and cafeterias. In addition, the converted rooftops harvest rainwater and insolate the building below, reducing rainwater runoff, energy consumption and utility bills.
Sky Produce Section
The cornerstone of our promotional campaign are the Sky Produce Sections located inside of every supermarket that we operate on top of. Our promotion sections focus on the core values of education, transparency and fun.
Education- We provide facts about the environmental significance, safety, taste, freshness and nutririon of Sky Produce as compared to the alternatives.
Transparency- To help build a trusting relationship with shoppers, we have video cameras installed on the roof which sends a live feed to a screen located in our produce section
Fun- Our Sky Farmers will regularly come downstairs to hand deliver fresh picked produce to the shoppers. The jolly Sky Farmers will interact with the people and have a good time.

Our Advantage
Vegetables that are grown at the point of sale have longer to ripen. They can be plucked from the stems when perfectly juicy and the nutritional value is greatest. Their close proximity to the end consumer helps preserve our environment. On the other hand, a vegetable that is not local travels an average of 2,000 miles and 7-14 days from the farm to the supermarket. These fruits and vegetables are harvested prematurely to retain the toughness necessary to withstand the journey, thereby diminishing the taste and nutritional content. Sky Vegetables changes the game by planting, growing and harvesting fresh produce right at the point of sale.
